75 Stories Down
CARLSBAD CAVERN IS 75 STORIES DOWN Mile and Half Hike to the Bottom
Upon reaching the junction for the Big Room or the Bathrooms, I recommend the bathroom before continuing. At this point you have hiked a mile and half down an incredible trail through rock and earth. Grade of the is close to 22 degrees with around sixty switch backs. I spent four and half hours in the caverns taking photos and a lot of video that didn’t turn out.

- There are several very good informational signs along the trail, through out the hike
- Couple more switch backs and down into the earth we go
- Looking back out at the clear blue sky as we head down to the big room
- About to enter the first cave on our journey to the center of...
- Looking back up as we descend in to Carlsbad Cavern on a spring hike or winter I guess
- Rock Formations start to take on interesting shapes and color in Carlsbad Cavern
- Colors of moss and liken as the trail continues down
- Around every switchback the view below changes
- Lime stone has a variety of hues and depth of color
- Side caverns like little bays in a lake appear along the journey
- Duck as you go through, the lowest point on the trail
- Duck as you go through, the lowest point on the trail
- Could almost slide on down in to the depths
Geological Photographic Experience in Carlsbad Cavern
If you like to show raw photography or not. Carlsbad Cavern offers a great experience and a challenge. The team shot over a thousand photos, that are still being edited and will be added weekly. The video experiment didn’t work out quite as well. We did learn lots, but out of three and half ours of footage very little is remotely usable.
