Once you leave the valley floor you enter 2 miles of deforestation by fire a few years ago.
On the hike we went as far as the second old quartz mine, then descend down the ridge to Spring Creek and down to the South Platte River.
Trekked on down the river, then ascended a couple of ridges and back on the main trail to the trailhead.
Colorado Trail is 486 miles in length, as well as being mostly above 10,000 feet in elevation.
We will be covering several segments of the trail.
