Brown Trout Introduced in Michigan 1883

Brown Trout were first introduced in Michigan, US in 1883 at the Northville Hatchery. Pere Marquette River was the first river hatchling were released in.  The rest has become fly fishing history, with Brown Trout being a highly sought after species with a fly rod. Streamer fishing is a great approach to catching Brown Trout.

Fall Fly Fishing for Brown Trout

In the fall Brown Trout make a journey up small tributaries to spawn. At the mouth of these tributaries fishing streamers such as wooly buggers are great flies to fish with in several colors from black though flashy ones as attractors.  Fall is probably my favorite time of the year, if one was to hold on to such a thing. I find a 10′ 3 weight fly rod with some backbone to be a lot of fun.  I am fishing mostly medium to small rivers and spring creeks. Afternoons with the same rod, soft hackle flies, nymphs switch to streamer on most occasions as the day grows long. Along with the buggers I have been know to throw zonkers, mudders and several varities of sculpins.
