Trail of Highways™ Hike up Devil Playground Trail Colorado July 11 2015 Sq1
This trail is a beautiful hike, but is very strenuous in the upper 1/3. You ascend 2800 in 3.2 miles. The bottom half of the trail ascends through a lush forest crossing a small stream 3 times.
Once you ascend above tree line the panoramic views are stunning. The trail also gets steeper as the trail goes along a stream with a abundance of wildflowers and cool rock formations. In the second week of July there was still some snow fields in the distance. You ascend to 13,000+ in elevation. A great in and out hike.
From Woodland Park, take Highway 24 West to the town of Divide. In Divide turn South on highway 67 and go south for 4.3 miles. Look for a sign on the left for the turn to the Crags Campground. Follow this road for 3.5 miles to the Crags Campground. Turn into the campground and follow the road all the way to the loop at the end. There is no fee to park here for access to the trailhead, however if you use any of the Day-use or camping facilities you must pay a fee back at the entry gate. (Lat:38.87135 Lon:-105.11966)
